Natalie Portman and Zach Braff

Synopsis: A young man returns home for his mother's funeral after being estranged from his family for a decade.

Review: Zach Braff, star of the TV series “Scrubs”, wrote, directed, and starred in this slice of life film about guy who returns to his New Jersey home after nine years to attend his mother’s funeral. Both humorous and poignant, I found this movie entirely satisfying. The soundtrack (one of the best I’ve heard in years) perfectly scored the sad, funny, and often bizarre moments of the main character’s life.

Braff plays the main part perfectly. His character, initially doped up on lithium, progresses from a numb observer of life to an active participant, and Braff moves him through the stages smoothly. Natalie Portman plays the compulsive liar that Braff meets in his doctor’s waiting room. Although I’ve seen her overact on her more flamboyant roles, in this movie her character seems genuine.

In short, I highly recommend this movie.
