Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Synopsis: A bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill the same target.

Review: This movie had about two things going for it: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. It was an interesting idea for a story—an unhappy married couple that are unknowingly assassins for competing firms—but not executed with the best skill. It was painfully predictable from the smaller gimmicks, like cutesy couple bickering in the midst of lethal warfare, to the inevitable ending where through their trials they discover that they truly love each other.
Pitt and Jolie make an attractive couple, but really how could they not? Although Pitt is a versatile actor he plays a familiar role as the good-natured guy who is slightly put-out by the world around him and makes up for it through humorous quips. I wouldn’t exactly call it type-casting, but we’ve seen it before in Ocean’s Eleven and The Mexican. Then again, I haven’t tired of it yet. Jolie goes from Martha Stewart to Lara Croft, but doesn’t seem quite as comfortable in either role as Pitt. One thing they definitely both have down, though, is the sex (scenes). As I said before, they make an attractive couple.
Overall this is just your average action movie, which comes equipped with standard pithy one-liners, gratuitous explosions, an endless stream of expendable peons, and a neat and tidy ending that wraps everything up with a nice red bow. There are some scenes that are amusing—a high speed chase featuring triplet BMWs and a fully-loaded minivan. But while they clearly had fun exploring the possibilities of suburban humor, I wouldn’t expect this movie to pave the way for a new subgenre—domestic violence, anyone?
